Oneida Area Arts Council Sponsors Theater Workshops

The Oneida Area Arts Council announces that it will be a sponsor of Miss Vic’s Drama Room for the coming season. Miss Vic’s Drama Room is a theatrical workshop where children and young teens from Oneida and the surrounding communities can come together to follow their own creative impulses. Miss Vic’s is dedicated to providing a supportive environment where children learn collaboration, communication skills, artistry, self esteem, a love of theatre, and a dedication to the community as a whole.

The program is taught and directed by Vicki Buda (AKA Miss Vic) - a professional performer, director and arts educator. Tuition includes all workshops, rehearsals, and performances. Miss Vic’s spring season began Wednesday, March 12t.  The Drama Room workshops on Wednesdays meet from 5:30-8:00pm at the facility of another sponsor, Sherrill Manufacturing. Supplemental rehearsals are added when necessary. This season will end with performances the third weekend in May on the Oneida High School Stage.

Originally from Oneida, Vicki Buda has continued to work in the New York City theatre for over a decade. Miss Buda is excited to celebrate her fourth year with the Drama room by working together with the Oneida Area Arts Council.  “With their gracious gift and support, we will be able to reach out to new students and continue to create professional children’s theatre for the community to enjoy.”

Mark Turnpenny is President of the Area Arts Council, a not for profit group that has brought live professional entertainment to the Oneida Area for over forty years. He says that the Council is thrilled to be involved with the Drama Room. “We have had a very successful season and have used the receipts from our ticket sales at the door to sow the seeds of future patrons. Several of our Board members are dedicated to the artistic needs of the area’s youth, and it was their passion that led to this sponsorship.”
